When Aran Zakeri was a first year at UC San Diego, he felt lost just like any freshman. However, Aran made the most out of this experience.
From grabbing any flyer he saw and scanning every QR code on campus, he went from feeling lost to building a community of his own for people like him. While he acknowledged the other Pre-Med clubs on campus, he knew that something was missing.
He founded the Undergraduate MD/PhD Society (UMPS) with the goal of advocating, supporting, and providing free resources for underserved pre-med students. In the AAMCs Aspiring Docs Diaries, Aran talks about UMPS and the challenges he faced starting a new organization, what UMPS is now, and how he is constantly aiming to continue to grow UMPS.
